TUAFC announce the loan signing of Jack Stobbs from Oldham Athletic, as defender Ollie Tomlinson heads to Chippenham.

26 year-old wideman Stobbs arrives at Plainmoor from divisional rivals Oldham, having agreed a deal until the end of the season.

The Leeds-born player came through the youth ranks at Sheffield Wednesday before signing his first professional contract at the Hillsborough club in 2014, where he then stayed for the next six years. During his time with the Owls, Stobbs spent time on loan at Port Vale and also in Scotland at Livingston, prior to spending 2020-21 at non-League Grantham Town.

Arriving at Boundary Park for 2021-22, Jack has gone on to make over 40 appearances for The Latics, and scored two goals for the club.

United manager Gary Johnson was delighted to aquire the services of Stobbs as the Gulls head into the last ten games of the season.

“As always we are delighted to have the opportunity to loan Jack Stobbs for the rest of the season. He first came to our attention when he played very well as a winger against us at the start of the season. He has been a victim of circumstance at Oldham, and so when we enquired about him, Oldham agreed that he could come to us on loan.”

Going in the opposite direction, the Gaffer also confirmed that defender Ollie Tomlinson has joined Chippenham Town on a similar deal –  on loan until the end of the current campaign, having recently returned from fellow National League South side Taunton.

“Ollie deserves his chance to get a loan at Chippenham, which is going to give him plenty of games over the rest of the season. He has been training well and we have enough centre halves in our camp, so it’s only right for him to go out and prove himself at Chippenham, and we will be keeping a very close eye on what he is doing. We wish him well and we will be keeping in touch with him throughout, as well as watching all his games on Wyscout.”
