Chris Todd’s U18s secured a late victory on Saturday, with two goals in the final ten minutes securing League Cup progress for the Young Gulls.

With Todd’s charges taking on a much-fancied Mangotsfield side, United found themselves 1-0 down with ten minutes left on the clock. However, the side once again showed their ‘never say die’ spirit, as two goals from Brandon Quinn and Jack Winsor were enough to secure a 2-1 victory, and with it clinch a semi-final tie with Wimborne.

This weekend, Torquay will return to South West Counties Youth League action, where a win against Paulton Rovers could see them take top spot.

JPL Round-Up

Meanwhile, the Club’s JPL side’s have been in action recently, with last weekend seeing the final fixtures of the current phase of their seasons.

United’s U12s ran out 3-1 winners at home against Saints Southwest Devon last weekend. Oscar Mills opened the scoring in the 16th minute, before doubling his side’s advantage twelve minutes later. The visitors netted in the 65th minute to make it 2-1, however, two minutes later it was Thomas Ross who made it 3-1.

The U13s side were without a game last weekend, but the weekend prior hosted PJSS Academy and despite a valiant effort, succumbed to a 3-0 defeat.

Saturday marked back-to-back wins for United U14s, who are in fine form. The previous weekend the Young Gulls came out on top with a 3-1 victory on the road at PJSS Academy, with goals from Fergus Brennan-Osment (25′), Lucas Robinson (34′) and Toby Hard (55′) securing the points.

In their recent game last weekend however, it was a six goal thriller for the U14 side, who eventually overcame opponents Saints South West Devon. Toby Hard continued his goal-scoring form and opened the scoring inside ten minutes with a header from an Alfie Briard corner, before the visitors equalised in the 24th minute. Four minutes later Coby White struck to reclaim United’s lead, before minutes later Hard bagged his brace, after being played through on goal by Briard, Hard was able to fire a low-driven effort into the bottom right corner. Four minutes later, however, the visitors found themselves back in the game and made it 3-2 from the penalty spot. Both sides battled it out in the second half but it was United who capitalised in the 71st minute to double the advantage. A corner from Brennan-Osment at the far-post who headed home to secure the U14s three points.

Its been a mixed bag of results for United’s U15s in recent weeks. The side recorded a 3-0 victory on 4th December over PJSS Academy, before last weekend they were back on the road to face Saints South West Devon, where it was the home side who came out on top. Meanwhile the U16s battled hard on home turf on Saturday, but it was the visitors, Saints South West Devon who ran out 3-0 victors.
