United looking to build on opening day point

After an enthralling 3-3 draw in their season opener on the road at AEK Boco Ladies – it’s back home for Torquay United and a new venue, as The Rec (Home to Newton Abbot Spurs) hosts the visit of Frampton Rangers Ladies on Sunday (2 pm kick-off)

Though last season wasn’t their finest, Frampton have plenty of silverware in their history, since forming in 2012 as a youth team. They won the league every season at youth level, entering the women’s league in 2016 and winning their first 2 seasons before missing out on the title on goal difference in season three.  They’ve also won several cups throughout the years.

Last season however they finished bottom of the SWRWPL with just eight points from their 16 outings.  And 2024/25 has started in a similar vein, Frampton losing both opening fixtures, 3-0 at Bishops Lydeard Ladies and then last weekend, 2-0, at Pucklechurch Sports Ladies.

It means the Bristol-based side will play their third successive game on the road, as well as helping Torquay United christen a new home pitch at The Rec.  Situated on Marsh Road in Newton Abbot, the well-equipped ground will give United a good alternative for when the synthetic surface at Coach Road is unavailable.

United have no fresh injury worries to report but do still have a number of short- and long-term absentees, and with a couple of players also unavailable on Sunday, Lee Mann will delve into the depths of this season’s big squad to find the winning formula.

The ladies hope to see as many of the Yellow Army as possible there on Sunday.  Postcode for the A & S Interiors Recreation Ground is TQ12 2BA.  Admission is £5 with concessions at £3 and there will be food and bar facilities available.

But, if you can’t get along there will be full commentary from 1.45 pm at https://tufcwomen.mixlr.com or you can follow updates via Torquay United Women’s social media channels.
