Following their emphatic victory last night, Torquay United’s Youth Team have been awarded another home tie, as they face Reading City in the next round of the FA Youth Cup.

Having already dispensed of Bovey Tracey (6-1) and Falmouth (6-3) in fine style, Kevin Wills’ side will now be looking to make home advantage count against the Berkshire-based outfit, as United look to make it into the First Round Proper for the third successive season.

Meanwhile, Wills reflected on Thursday’s action-packed tie, which saw the Young Gulls race into a five-goal half-time lead.

“It was a fantastic result, first and foremost,” said United’s U18s boss.

“Obviously, there’s still a lot to learn. In the first half, we were absolutely outstanding, and I don’t want to put a dampener on things, but we need to keep our standards better in the second half. The key aim was to get into the next round, so it was aim achieved.”

With a crowd of over 100 largely backing the home side, Kevin paid tribute to the Yellow Army who made the short trip to Buckland Athletic’s Homers Heath ground on Thursday evening, as his side now turn their attentions to the challenges ahead.

“The boys appreciated the support, as do I, and hopefully they’ve seen that – especially first half – we can play some good football – you always like to see lots of goals going in!

“We never look too far ahead. It’s back to League Cup action on Saturday, and there will probably be a little bit of rotation due to the number of games in a short period of time.

“The aim is to get into the First Round Proper, however there is another qualifying round to go. Hopefully we can get through.”

Further details regarding the venue & date for the 3rd Round Qualifying fixture against Reading City will be confirmed in due course.
