Having been one of the record 87,192 supporters to witness England Women beat Germany in the Euro 2022 final, TUWFC skipper Danni Wyatt has given her reaction to an unforgettable night at Wembley.

Following a season that saw her experience her own moment of cup glory, after United secured a first-ever Devon Cup win at the expense of Exeter City last term, Wyatt took the opportunity to reflect on her own personal journey in Womens’ football, and the impact those successes will have, locally and nationally.

“At primary school there wasn’t a girls team. I pushed my way onto the playground and no one passed me the ball,” recalls Danni.

“Growing up, my brother took me to the park with his friends just so I could have the opportunity to play, to express myself, and at 13 I joined a girls side.

“All throughout my childhood, I would constantly hear ‘no-one cares about women’s football’ and at 15, I stopped playing so I could fit in better with the crowd, but at 17, the England Women started to inspire me again and I joined a local team. When I was 18, I signed for Torquay United Women, and now at 27, I’m the club captain!

“Last night I stood in Wembley with nearly 90,000 people & another 17 million watching it live. No one can ever tell me ‘no-one cares about women’s football ever again, and the best thing is, I never have – and never will – believe them. It was a total dream come true.

“I truly believe this is only the beginning for Women’s football in this country. Football has come home, and Lionesses – Thank You.”
