Torquay United AFC is saddened to learn of the passing of former Gulls manager Dave Smith.
Dundee-born Smith arrived at Plainmoor in October 1989, and after leading the Club to a 15th-placed finish, he steadily rebuilt a squad that would ultimately go on to win promotion the following season, shortly after his departure in April 1991.
Having initially made his name as a full-back during his playing days at Burnley, Brighton and Bristol City, it is perhaps for his numerous managerial successes that Dave will best remembered, with Mansfield, Southend and Plymouth all winning promotions during his tenure.
