With the festive period traditionally marking the halfway stage in the footballing calendar, United Head of Youth Robbie Herrera looks back on what has been an exciting few months for the Club’s youth department.

“It’s been a solid half year for all age groups in the Academy,” began Robbie.

“All squads have been training hard since July and there has been some excellent progress made, but that doesn’t mean the players can take their foot off the gas just yet. The second half of the season will be vitally as important, so we as staff can assess and prepare for the needs of each individual and how we implement that for the next season.

“Our Under-10 squad at this moment in time only play friendly fixtures until next September when they join into the Junior Premier League. The remaining squads U11 through to U16 are all competing well in that said league. There have been some excellent performances in both league and cup matches.

“We have managed to integrate some of our U16 players into our U18 squad, which has been great for their development, and in turn some of the U18 squad have been involved with the first team, gaining minutes and invaluable experience. This shows that our club has a proven pathway through to first team football. It’s important that we continue to develop our players so they are ready for life with the first team or whichever level of football they feel comfortable with.

“I’d like to thank our Coaches for their hard work so far, and long may it continue. Also thank you for all your support for the youth.

“Merry Christmas to you all, and a Happy New Year!”
