TUAFC’s #HerGameToo Ambassador Danni Wyatt explains the importance of International Womens Day, ahead of TUWFC’s clash with Sherborne taking centre-stage at Plainmoor on Sunday 19th March.

International Womens Day (IWD) has occurred for well over a century, with the first IWD gathering in 1911 supported by over a million people. Today, IWD belongs to all groups collectively everywhere, and is not country, group or organization specific.

With Wednesday 8th March has been designated as International Womens Day 2023, Wyatt – a prominent member of United’s promotion-chasing women’s side – highlighted how the growing bond between TUAFC and TUWFC is just one example of the positive impact of truly embracing equality.

“It’s a really important mark of celebration, a day we can salute the outstanding achievements of women across the world, and for me personally, the achievements we’ve made as a football club and as a community,” said Danni.

“We’ve seen some big changes within football in the South West for Women & with TUAFC’s support, we have seen Torquay United Women FC grow to achieve their most successful season since forming.”

United’s HGT Ambassador went on to pay tribute to women all across the world who have pushed for change, including her own footballing heroes – England’s Euro 2022 winning Lionesses.

“The celebration of International Women’s Day is intended as a reminder of the immense impact women have had, and will continue to have on society.

“Happy International Women’s Day to all the women who have challenged gender norms, broken down barriers, and created opportunities for others. To the Lionesses who inspired the nation, we thank you.”

TUWFC Heading For Plainmoor
