After being thrust straight into action at Wrexham last weekend, Byron Moore is looking to build on that, by helping steer United up the National League table.

“It was enjoyable to be fair,” said Byron, who signed for the Club last Friday.

“It was just nice getting back to playing football again, gradually getting some minutes to get my match fitness back on track, and I’m looking to the games ahead. I left Plymouth, and obviously I’ve been going to the gym and having a personal trainer, but I’ve not kicked a ball in three months, until I signed here. Some days I felt low, some days I felt good, but I just had to stay active and be positive.”

Having made the switch across Devon after 43 appearances for League One Plymouth Argyle last term, Moore is now setting his sights on using his experience to bag a fourth promotion to his already-impressive CV, following successful fourth-tier campaigns at Crewe, Bury and Argyle.

“I’ve come here to help the team to move up the table, and push towards the play off spots,  and hopefully get another promotion – that would be nice.

“I came down here on Monday, so it’s been about a week. There’s quite a few young lads and I saw quite a lot of potential in them. I want to try and help the young lads, there’s a fewer older lads, so hopefully it rubs off on the young ones.”

Within minutes of entering the fray at the Racecourse Ground, Gary Johnson’s newest arrival nearly marked his debut with a goal, and although it wouldn’t have come in the manner he would have expected, Byron is more than happy to assist wherever required.

“I don’t use my head much, so it would have been an achievement if I’d scored with my head!

“When I was at Crewe I always played on the wing, then when Ryan Lowe signed me for Bury, he used to stick me up front for the first 70 minutes, and then in the last 20  minutes put me at wing-back in a 3-5-2 formation. I don’t mind playing anywhere, as long as I’m playing.”

With a free weekend ahead for The Gulls, Moore is preparing to make his Plainmoor bow against Dover on Saturday week, a prospect that clearly excites the 33 year-old wideman.

“It’s a good time to top up my fitness with the running, getting the balls out, kicking the balls and I’m looking forward to playing at home – I can’t wait.”
