With this year marking the 40th anniversary of Rowcroft Hospice, TUAFC is joining forces with other leading businesses and landmarks to appear in a unique local edition of Hasbro’s iconic board game, Monopoly.

Since emerging from small beginnings in 1982, the specialist care provided by Rowcroft to the South Devon community over four decades has seen the Hospice blossom into an esteemed and well-respected organisation, which cares for more than 2,000 people with life-limiting illnesses across South Devon every year.

As part of the celebrations to mark 40 years of unfailing care, Rowcroft have partnered up with Hasbro to produce a bespoke South Devon edition of the famous property trading game Monopoly, with this unique version escorting you around the famous sites, beaches and attractions which make up our wonderful region.

The production of this much-adored board game will generate vital funds for Rowcroft Hospice and will be released later this year, with Torquay United – South Devon’s only professional sporting club – proudly adorning one of the board’s yellow (of course) squares.

Originally created in 1935, Monopoly is is a multi-player property-based board game, in which players roll dice to move around the board, buying and trading properties, and developing them with houses and hotels. Players collect rent from their opponents, with the goal being to drive them all into bankruptcy and emerge as the overall winner. A popular family favourite, Monopoly is also renowned for bringing out the competitive streak in even the most passive of personalities!

After paying a visit to Rowcroft on Friday, TUAFC Community Media Officer Matt Rogan commented on the exciting link-up.

“We are so pleased here at Torquay United to be able to help promote and support such an important local charity.

“Most people in the community are certainly aware of Rowcroft, but not everyone knows the hard work it takes day to day from the dedicated and passionate nurses and staff, plus the true cost of what it takes to keep it running.”

Further information regarding the game’s release, as well as some Monopoly-themed events at Plainmoor to celebrate the launch, will be announced in due course.

In the meantime, Torquay United supporters have until 4pm this Friday, 11th March to enter the Club’s latest raffle, with the lucky winner being the recipient of a 2021/22 home shirt, signed by Gary Johnson’s first-team squad.

Tickets are priced at £2 each and are available to purchase online HERE.

Please note that the raffle is done electronically, so no physical raffle ticket will be issued, you will receive an electronic receipt which will be your proof of purchase.
