There was another good turn out at Retro Gulls on Thursday afternoon, in our latest event aimed at the over-50s.

The event was hosted by Media Officer and Supporters Liaison Officer Dominic Mee, and included a questions and answers session with United defender Ali Omar, who proved himself popular amongst the audience, before the afternoon was rounded off with a quiz, and the opportunity to browse the hundreds of programmes available in the Programme Fair.

The event began with Omar, who discussed his time in the Bay, as well as his aim to get himself on the scoresheet, and life in the Gulls Lodge with a number of his teammates.

The room was then handed to quiz host Ian Brown, who tested the audience with a number of challenging quiz questions, with Ali also joining in on the action and joining a team. Before the answers were disclosed, and the winning team announced, the group looked back to decide contenders for goal of the season, with Joe Lewis’ goal against Wealdstone at Plainmoor, and Armani Little’s against former club Woking being mentioned.

The session was then concluded with the Retro Gulls having a browse amongst a variety of match day magazines throughout the room, for the Programme Fair, with those taking programmes donating funds to go directly to United’s Youth Department.

The Club would like to thank those who attended, with further information about the next event set to be announced in due course.

About Retro Gulls

With the health and wellbeing in residents aged 50 and over widely recognised as another important aspect of community care within Torbay, supporters aged 50 and over will be invited to attend events in Boots & Laces once a month, with United stars present and past due to be in attendance for each meeting.

The Club will be focused on all things Torquay United, and will provide the opportunity to get Torquay talking. These events will give our ‘Retro Gulls’ the chance to discuss the current team, and those of yesteryear, with both fellow supporters and United stars past and present.

The events will vary each month, with future activities set to include fitness sessions, skittles, programme swap-shops, quizzes, bingo, workshops and much more!

Retro Gulls events are provided by the Club free of charge for all United supporters aged 50 or over. Although booking is not essential, to reserve your space, please email [email protected] or phone 01803 328666 (Monday-Friday 10am-2pm)
