Torquay United AFC is delighted to announce the signing of Stevenage defender Ross Marshall.

Ross, 22, arrives at United after a highly successful period on loan at National League Barnet last season, where he made sixteen appearances for the Club, ironically beginning with The Bees’ 2-2 draw at Plainmoor back in February.

After beginning his career as a youngster at Ipswich Town alongside fellow Torquay new boys Dylan Crowe and Brett McGavin, a move to National League South side Maidstone ultimately secured the player a return to the EFL with League Two Stevenage, with the towering centre-back going on to clock up 27 appearances during his spell there, prior to his temporary switch to The Hive last term.

Manager Gary Johnson is understandably delighted to have completed the signing of Marshall, whose impressive form during the last campaign can only bode well for The Gulls’ 2022/23 aspirations.

“It’s took a couple more days than we would have hoped to get him in, he missed a couple of days, but we had to do the business properly.

“All is well with Stevenage, all is well with the player, and we’re pleased that he’s chosen us, as he had a couple of other clubs interested. He’s a lad that can play in three different positions, but we’ve brought him in as a centre-back, and for somebody so young, at 22, he’s had good experience, and of course, the important one is he’s had the good experience from this league.

“We were first aware of him when he played against us for Barnet, he’s had an Ipswich upbringing, so it’s another one for our ‘Ipswich B team’. We didn’t know he knew Ali, and knew the other lads, so it’s another one that comes into a group that generally know each other already, and that’s good.

“He’s a confident lad, that’s for sure, and I’m very happy to have him in our club.”

The player himself is clearly pleased to complete his move to Plainmoor, and is now eager to get underway.

“It’s brilliant, I can’t wait to get going now really,” said Ross.

“I’ve been down here for a couple of days now, and obviously I’m delighted to get it done.”

The Yellow Army will be able to watch Ross Marshall’s first interview as a Gulls player on Official TUFC TV shortly.
