Having witnessed Brett McGavin’s quality as an opponent last season, United’s new signing can’t wait to show the Yellow Army what he can do in a Torquay shirt.

Anyone who saw new signing Brett’s wonder goal in The Gulls’ 3-2 success at King’s Lynn back in March couldn’t fail to have been impressed by it, even if it did cause some discomfort at the time.

“Unfortunately it had to come against Torquay, the Club I’m signing at,” said McGavin of the strike.

“I’ll always be grateful for what happened at previous clubs – Ipswich and King’s Lynn – but I’m 22 now, and this one is really a chance to kick on. I just think it’s a great Club that gives me that opportunity to do so.”

After coming through Ipswich Town’s youth team, the classy midfielder went on to make eleven first-team appearances for The Tractor Boys, with a number of loan spells helping to prepare him for a bright future at senior level.

Clearly grateful for how those experiences have already helped to shape his career path, Brett is confident that with a first season at National League level now behind him, his upward trajectory will begin in earnest with Gary Johnson’s men.

“I think I adjusted towards it at the end, but at the start I found it hard. I think there’s a gap between a lot of teams. Some teams try and play, but most of them – it’s tough, it’s men’s football, and it’s everything for that three points.

“I’m really happy to be here, and I can’t wait for that first game in front of the fans.”
