Torquay United AFC has announced the departure of Head of Youth Chris Todd, who has decided to leave the Club to pursue an opportunity in first-team football.

Former United defender Chris joined United’s youth department in September 2019, following a spell out of senior football after leaving Gloucester City the previous season.

During the past three years, Todd worked closely alongside the Club’s first-team management team of Gary Johnson and Aaron Downes, with the results of that partnership bearing fruit last season as Torquay’s Under-18 secured a clean-sweep of domestic trophies.

Although disappointed by his departure, the quality of the Youth football programme and our relationship with South Devon College will remain. We are in the process of finding a suitable replacement Head Of Youth who will sustain the ethos, standards and values of our programme so that our students continue to develop and progress.

A move back for Chris into senior football further highlights the significant progress the Club is continuing to make behind the scenes at Plainmoor, with the lure of working in that environment once more football proving too much for Todd to turn down.

“From my point of view, I thank Torquay and the Gaffer for everything – for bringing me in, and for developing from Under-18s manager to Head of Youth” said Chris.

“It’s been a great experience and I’ve loved every minute of it, working with the youth and the first-team, but opportunities come about and you have to make these calls.”

“Torquay will always have a place in my heart, and that will never change. I’d like to thank everybody for the support I’ve had, and the fans. It’s been incredible really how supportive everyone has been with the youth, and I wish everyone well.”
