With 2023 set to be another memorable year, TUWFC manager Steve Elswood reflected on the 2022 calendar year, with many firsts being achieved.

“It has been an incredible 2022 with ups and downs and ending in last seasons fourth placed league finish.  Working closely with the club we have now achieved One Club One Community ethos, and began a new era as an established football club alongside the main club at Torquay United AFC, that itself has been great to now be a part of the history of TUAFC connecting us both together.”

“We ended the 21-22 season by re-grouping to achieve history in winning the Devon County Cup for the first time ever, with some truly amazing stories on the pitch playing out that night, and the penalty shootout drama  resulting in our victory. Since then the ladies haven’t looked back and we’ve focused on moving forward both on and off the pitch in 22-23. We’ve brought in some quality players in the summer and throughout the season so far, who have really added to the squad and given us even more attacking focus.”

“Players very much have a freedom to express themselves in how we set up shape-wise, and also in the DNA of how we play, and with so many goals scored throughout all positions this season it is a testimony to that mentality, and now with two really talented strikers joining us in Connie Pengelly and Esme Kilburn Thompson, that can only be a massive plus for us to continue our focuses and achieve our targets and I for one would not want to be an opposing CB against are attacking options that’s for sure!”

“We’ve achieved our furthest ever FA Cup run this season and made history by reaching the Second Round Proper having played four matches to get there, and next year we will make the Third Round that we are sure of.”

“Looking forward as we head into 2023, we’re focused and ready with three games in hand on the top two and only trail by four points at present, so the ball is in our court. We have Bristol Rovers and Forest Green Rovers to play and we know what’s expected and what we need to deliver. This is an amazing group of ladies and we have a very special bond, we are all focused and we have one goal right now, and that’s to become champions and achieve promotion to Tier Four for the first time ever in our history.”

“We would like to thank all of the Yellow Army who cheer us on at home and away games, we appreciate your support and we can’t wait to see you all in 2023, and hopefully we can lift the trophy and celebrate with you.”

“Happy New Year Yellow Army.”
