Steve Elswood’s team head into the final game of the season this Sunday with the title and promotion in sight, and in their own hands.

This Sunday, (30th April), could see history made for Torquay United Women, as they know victory over Royal Wootton Bassett will seal the South West Regional Women’s Football League title and promotion to the Women’s National League for the first time in their history. The game will be played at Liverton United FC and will kick off at 2pm, and although their visitor’s are bottom of the league will still prove to be a tough challenge for the United side.

Steve Elswood looked ahead to the final game, and his hopes to complete the season with the title and that all important promotion.

“It’s a big weekend for us there’s no doubt about that, but we will treat it exactly how we have treated every game this season, in that we have had a steely focus and determination to succeed throughout this season, and we prepare intently both in the build-up to games, and also always ensure on the pitch itself and we never leave anything behind. We now have to get over the line and get the three points, and that mentality and DNA we have built this season will be there in abundance this Sunday for sure.”“After our opening league game at Sherborne, where we lost three nil, perhaps we could’ve been amiss to think we could have achieved what we have, and possibly are about to this Sunday. However, this group of players and the coaching staff I’ve assembled are on a different level, and the hard work we’ve all put in together is reaping the rewards, and although there is pressure this weekend, we thrive off that and have shown it during the season and we are definitely not going to let ourselves or the club down now we’ve got here.”“To go on a 17 game unbeaten run in the league with an unbeaten home record along the way, and with the best defence in the league, has been the icing on the cake, and there is no better finish now then to win the title and secure Tier Four and National League football for the first time in our history. Once again we want to thank the Club for their tireless support this season, and also the amazing Yellow Army, who have travelled across the South of England supporting us this season, and we hope as many as possible can get to Liverton United FC on Sunday.”
