Torquay’s U18s went down to their first league reverse of the season on Saturday morning, as rivals Yeovil Town came out on top.

The match was a closely-fought encounter, with both sides looking to claim bragging rights either side of the Devon / Somerset border.

Given the competitive nature of proceedings, one goal was always likely to prove crucial, and in the end it was The Glovers’ Charlie Bateson that provided the decisive intervention, as he scored the solitary goal of the game to secure a 1-0 win for the home side.

Although boss Ryan Dickson was understandably disappointed with the rare setback, the Young Gulls still have a number of games in hand of their title-chasing rivals, providing them with ample opportunity to put things right.

“Yeovil were the stronger, tougher side, and we didn’t have the legs or energy to match them,” reflected Dickson after the match.

United’s next South West Youth Counties action is scheduled to take place on 10th December, with a trip to Bath City next up on the agenda.
