Kevin Wills’ U18s saw their unbeaten start to the season come to an end on Saturday, and they slipped to a League Cup defeat against Bath City.
Having begun the 2023/24 campaign in blistering fashion in all of their previous South West Counties Youth League and FA Youth Cup outings, last weekend’s home clash against Bath saw the Young Gulls fall just short, despite a match that could have gone either way.
After falling a goal behind, Wills’ side showed remarkable spirit in their attempts to get back on level terms, and eventually they did just that, with Ashton Ballard making it 1-1.
Sadly though, United’s defence of the Gary Else Memorial Trophy – which Torquay have won for the past two seasons – began with a group stage defeat, as City edged back in front once more to claim victory.
The Young Gulls will now be looking to get back to winning ways on Saturday, as their league schedule continues with a trip to Yeovil Town.
