TUAFC is delighted to announce that Steve Elswood has been awarded the Vanarama National League Volunteer of the Month Award for January.

Every month three winners are chosen from each of the three National League divisions to highlight the outstanding contribution made by volunteers across the the three divisions that make up the National League.

Steve Elswood is already a familiar face to the Yellow Army as TUWFC Manager, but on matchdays at Plainmoor, Steve plays a key role behind the scenes as Matchday Mascot Coordinator, ensuring that the young Gulls fanatics having a truly memorable and unique experience.

Steve’s voluntary services doesn’t end there however, as he has also got behind the mic as co-commentator on Official TUFC Radio, including for Gary Johnson’s side FA Cup replay at Pride Park last November and also back at Plainmoor he has also been on hand to lend a helping hand with coordinating the Club’s matchday ball retrievers.

After being presented with the Vanarama National League Volunteer of the Month Award for January at Plainmoor, Steve spoke of his pride at receiving national recognition for his efforts.

“It means an awful lot to be fair. For those who don’t know, I’ve come here as a young lad myself and grown up with the Club, and been lucky enough to be in and out of the Club in various coaching roles.

“When I was approached about trying to reignite the matchday mascot work, which is what I’m probably most familiar with on a matchday, I thought, this is incredible, because I’m so proud that these young mascots are the fans of the future, for us, and for the longevity of the Football Club.

“For them to have such a great day with me and for the Club to support the development of the matchday mascot experience – the buy-in from the players and Gary, behind the scenes, and just to see the little mascots’ smiles on their faces – they absolutely love it. They’re buzzing with it and just to be recognised for that work means an awful lot to me.”

Congratulations, Steve!
