Torquay United AFC is delighted to announce it has partnered up with mental health organisation, The BroProject.

During the remainder of the 2023/24 season, TUAFC will be providing two complimentary tickets for each home league fixture, and allow members of the group to enjoy an afternoon of live football with us at Plainmoor.

The BroProject was founded in March 2022 with two principle aims – to improve men’s mental health, and to prevent suicide in men. With 3 out of 4 suicides being male, The BroProject tackles this alarming statistic by arranging free sessions for men to come and enjoy themselves, with activities including pottery painting, football, golf, glass blowing, beach fitness, woodwork, walking, gym session and even martial arts!

These sessions run once a week throughout the month, and although primarily aimed at men, mental health can affect everyone – and therefore all are welcome to attend.

With the emphasis being on having fun, The BroProject aims to create a safe and comfortable space for its members, and one that is then naturally more conducive to feelings being shared.

In addition to this, The BroProject delivers free mental health First Aid training to individuals, with 27 people gaining MHFA accreditation this year alone.

TUAFC’s Sharon Musker spoke of her pride in the Club’s latest link-up.

“I think it’s fantastic that the Club has linked up with The BroProject, especially in this manner.

“Many men of all ages regularly attend matches at Plainmoor, so this is great way to publicise the wonderful work BroProject does, whilst the free tickets that the Club are providing also gives members of the group to enjoy a day watching live football here with us, and hopefully get them talking.”

Meanwhile, Alex Dawson, co-founder of The BroProject said:

“We are really grateful to TUAFC for this opportunity and would like to thank them for enabling us to give more to our community.

“We strive everyday to improve everyone’s lives and these tickets will help us to achieve this. Together, stronger.”
