Torquay United’s squad strengthening plans have received another boost, with the news that Jack Stobbs will be returning to Plainmoor, having agreed a deal for 2023/24.
Following on from the announcement earlier this week that another 2022/23 loan star, midfielder Kevin Dawson, had agreed to turn his temporary move to The Gulls into a permanent arrangement, winger Jack Stobbs has followed suit in similar fashion.
Torquay’s loyal fanbase will no doubt be delighted to see Stobbs, 26, back in action once again, after the former Sheffield Wednesday, Port Vale and Livingston wideman made huge impact after arriving on loan from divisional rivals Oldham in March.
Following his debut in the 1-1 draw at Gateshead, Jack went on to endear himself to the Yellow Army over the closing weeks of the campaign, and played a pivotal role in United’s excellent late run of form of just two defeats in the ten fixtures in which he started.
“It’s great news that we have secured the services of Jack Stobbs, and he will be joining us for the 2023/24 season,” said United boss Gary Johnson.
“Jack had a very good stint with us at the end of the season, he enjoyed his time here, and he joins his teammates for the coming campaign.”
Johnson is clearly pleased that his aim of retaining the bulk of players that finished last term so strongly is now nearing completion, barely two weeks into what has already been a hectic close-season.
