Following victory over Halifax at the weekend, manager Gary Johnson has given an update on United’s loan players, which sees Dillon De Silva extending his stay, whilst Will Goodwin & Stephen Wearne have returned to their parent Clubs.

With two exciting new loan stars – Ricky Aguair and James Crole – named in the matchday squad last weekend, the Gaffer is also delighted that QPR winger De Silva has agreed to remain at Plainmoor, with the Sri Lankan international having already proved to be a fans’ favourite with the Yellow Army.

“We are really pleased to have Dillon, because he is working hard to improve his game,” said Johnson.

“He is a player that can turn a game late on, and is a player we need with us right now. He is a great lad who is willing to learn, and he is improving, and we are delighted that he has chosen to extend his stay with us.

“With Will & Stephen, we knew it was coming because we had heard there was interest for Will, even though we had agreed with both Stoke & Grimsby that Will & Stephen were going to stay with us. Within the last week or two of their loans was when we heard about the interest with Will and that Stoke had received an offer for him, and Wearney felt that he needed to go back to Grimsby to compete for a place, and that was why neither of them were involved in the game against FC Halifax on Saturday.

“We would like to have kept Will and we had made him a very good offer to stay, but a higher league club had come in for him. Both are gone but not forgotten, and we thank them for their service to the Club in their time here.”
