United’s Young Gulls started 2023 in positive fashion with a resounding 4-0 victory against BRS Coaching.

A Ben Aldous hat-trick in the opening 30 minutes of the game gave United’s U18s the perfect platform to get 2023 off to the best start as they overcame BRS Coaching 4-0 at South Devon College.

Aldous claimed his first goal from the penalty spot after calmly slotting past the visitors keeper, with his second coming shortly after from a mazy Sam Bishop run where the midfielder beat four players before squaring the ball to Aldous who slotted home to double United’s lead. His third goal was created by himself, after a run of power and pace left him one on one with the keeper, and to his delight the ball ended up in the net and the striker knew he would be going home with the match ball.

The hat-trick hero was then replaced by 16 year old Jacob Wellington who was making his debut, and Wellington went on to make an impressive first appearance for the team. A solitary goal in the second half from Australian Will Brennan, his first for the Club and who had only returned to the UK the day before, sealed the victory for the Young Gulls to get off to the perfect start in 2023.

TUAFC U18s manager Ryan Dickson reflected on the match and performance after the game:

“It was a valuable 90 minutes for a lot of the first years, while being a very good squad performance. I was really pleased with the composure of our goalkeeper, and of the distribution from our young defenders when coming out from the back. It was good to get the rust off and back into the swing of things.”
