With preparations for 2023/24 continuing everywhere at TUAFC, the hard work on Plainmoor’s hallowed turf is now beginning to show its first rewards.
Following Plainmoor’s now customary annual pitch renovations, the first signs of grass on the playing surface serves as a reminder that pre-season action ahead of the new campaign will return to the stadium next month.
Whilst Groundman Julian Gouldthorpe is pleased with how things are progressing, he makes no secret of the fact he is one of the few anticipating some wetter weather than the glorious English Riviera has seen of late, as he took a few moments to explain a bit more about the growth cycle of the green stuff every Gulls fan is eager to see.
“The pitch is coming on now. The grass is maturing, and getting towards the ‘three-leaf’ stage, which means it’ll needs its first cut soon.
“Grass grows like a tree. When a tree grows, one branch grows, then another branch grows off that, and it gets thicker and thicker.
“Grass grows just like that – we could just do with some rain now!”

An essential part of the matchday team here at Plainmoor is our Grounds Maintenance Team, who ensure the playing surface is always in top-notch condition ahead of the action getting underway at kick-off!
Sponsorship of our ever-popular Ground Staff will see your logo appear on all of their kit, ensuring your brand is visible not only on a matchday, but also during interviews and features on the Club’s website, social media, and Matchday Magazine, 1899.
