Friday 22nd July sees the return of our popular Retro Gulls event at Plainmoor, with the Club’s community-based initiative continuing to focus on promoting health & wellbeing in the over-50s.

Taking place in Boots & Laces between 2-4pm, our latest event will see former United star and new Head of Youth here at TUAFC, Robbie Herrera taking to the stage to answer questions from the group regarding his time with the Club in his various different roles, before pitting their wits against the group in what promises to be another keenly-fought and wide-ranging quiz.

Herrera is a former left-back who clocked up over a century of appearances for TUAFC, as well as representing QPR, Fulham and Leyton Orient during a Football League career that spanned thirteen years.

After hanging up his boots, Robbie embarked a coaching career that has included spells in charge of non-league sides Torrington and Dorchester Town, either side of a two-year stint as Assistant Manager of the first-team here at Plainmoor between 2015-2017.

Herrera’s return to The Gulls as Head of Youth is sure to prove popular with the Yellow Army – many of whom have fond memories of him from his playing days.

There will then be a talk from Annette Solomon, the Fostering Recruitment & Events Coordinator from Torbay Council who will be speaking about the need for the search for new Foster Carers throughout Torbay.

Retro Gulls events are provided by the Club free of charge for all United supporters aged 50 or over. Although booking is not essential, to reserve your space, please email [email protected] or phone 01803 328666 (Monday-Friday 10am-2pm)

About Retro Gulls

With the health and wellbeing in residents aged 50 and over widely recognised as another important aspect of community care within Torbay, supporters aged 50 and over will be invited to attend events in Boots & Laces once a month, with United stars present and past due to be in attendance for each meeting.

The Club will be focused on all things Torquay United, and will provide the opportunity to get Torquay talking. These events will give our ‘Retro Gulls’ the chance to discuss the current team, and those of yesteryear, with both fellow supporters and United stars past and present.

The events will vary each month, with future activities set to include fitness sessions, skittles, programme swap-shops, quizzes, bingo, workshops and much more!

Dates for the next two events are as follows:

  • Thursday 25th August 2pm-4pm
  • Friday 23rd September 2pm-4pm
