Following a momentous season that saw Torquay United Women claim the Devon Women’s Premier Cup for the first time, Steve Elswood’s side are looking forward to building on that progress next term.

After embracing the highly successful start to the partnership, everybody at the Torquay United AFC is now looking forward to that relationship growing next term, as both the women and men go for promotion in 2022/23.

Next season will see TUWFC wear the same kits as Gary Johnson’s side, with a number of other initiatives planned to further highlight the growing bond with the Club.

Manager Elswood spoke of his delight with the partnership, and how he hopes this will enable his team to scale even greater heights next term.

“Following on from the success of last year, I think it’s the logical next step for all of us,” began Steve.

“I’m excited by lots of it, but certainly the fact that we’ll be using the same badge is an important thing, as that very much shows we’re very much one club, one community. The fact that we’ll be wearing the same strip as the men next year I think is key.

“We’ll be looking like the men off the pitch too with training wear, which I think is a big thing, in how we’re perceived, so on-and-off the field we’ll be looking the same.”

Elswood and the players have clearly enjoyed being part of Club, and also thanked the directors and all the staff at Plainmoor for embracing real of sense togetherness over the course of the past few months.

Having attended the Jubilee celebrations at Torre Abbey recently, the TUWFC manager felt this was a great example of the Club working together for the best for the local community, and is looking forward to more partnership opportunities in the future.

“I’m very excited by how the fans will be seeing lots more of the women players, which is something it feels like has been a huge success. Doing a lot more work on matchdays and off the field, and doing community events as well. We’re really keen to build on that.”

The Yellow Army will also be able to play their own part in supporting the Women, with the launch of ‘Friends Of TUWFC’, enabling supporters to get even closer to the team.

For a £100 donation towards running TUWFC, this package will see Friends receive the following, amongst other benefits:

  • Listing on the TUWFC website
  • Certificate acknowledging your support
  • 2 tickets in the Family Stand for a TUAFC league match at Plainmoor

Initial funds raised by Friends Of TUWFC will go towards supplying all the players with new training wear, which will proudly sport the Friends of TUWFC logo.
