Young United pair JJ Evans and Owen Price have been rewarded for their displays on the international stage by receiving their England Colleges caps.

With both Evans and Owen being awarded caps in recognition for their appearances in Italy against the host country, as well as sides from Australia, Wales and Moldova, it serves as a proud moment for both players and their families.

Torquay United Under-18 coach Chris Todd, who also travelled to Italy as part of the England Colleges National Team coaching staff, felt that the trip will have put United’s newest professionals in good stead for their future careers.

“To get a cap for your country at any level is a massive achievement, and will hopefully push them on,” said Todd.

“It was great to see them up against the calibre of those sides. Italy, in particular, included players going to the likes of Juventus, and they were all playing at a level equivalent to the third tier in Italian football, so it was a good standard and a great experience. Even though they lost the game against Italy, they would have learned a lot from it.

“It’s a great start for them, and who knows, they could go on to get full England caps!”

Both players expressed their pride in receiving their caps, and looked back on what was a memorable occasion.

“Everything we did, including going to St Georges Park for the weekend, and having access to all the best facilities, was a great experience,” began Evans.

“Owen was there, which was great, and I also knew a few other players there too. I think we gelled well as a group.

“Flying to Italy was a great experience, seeing the culture and how the sides play. It was great to play on some nice pitches, and against some top teams too.

“I’m grateful to all the coaches, including Chris Todd, for everything they have done to help me reach this point.

“It’s an honour to be capped by your country at any level, and my family and friends are all very proud.”

Owen, echoed those thoughts, as both players look ahead to an exciting first season as young professionals at Plainmoor.

“To have the opportunity to play for England was a surreal experience, which I will treasure for a long time,” he said.

“It was great to see the different styles of play, and it has definitely helped me develop my own individual game.

“The tournament was amazing, and all the lads were great. Playing against big teams like Italy, Moldova and Wales was a massive challenge for us all, but also an unforgettable experience that I enjoyed every minute of!

“Receiving my England cap last week was a very proud moment for myself and family, who I cannot thank enough for all the support they give me.

“I’d also like to thank all the coaches, specifically Chris Todd for all the help and advice given to me, and for the opportunity to be able to play in the national team.

“I can’t wait for the new season to start now, it’s exciting times ahead!
