United are back on the road this weekend, as they travel to Essex to face Aveley.

Gary Johnson’s side will be looking to chalk up win number five tomorrow to continue their winning run, however they will face a tough test from an Aveley side that have also started the season in a positive way.

Who’s the boss?

Danny Scopes is the former Concord Rangers manager that led the then National League South club to the FA Trophy Final in 2021, though before that he assisted the Cowley brothers at the Beachboys prior to his appointment as Manager in 2019.

Scopes was appointed manager of Aveley in November 2021, and last season led them to the National League South for the first time in their history, after finishing 4th in the Isthmian Premier League before beating Canvey Island 4-2 on penalties in the Play-Off Semi Final, and then Hornchurch 1-0 in the Final to clinch promotion.

Player to watch

Siju Odelusi has played in all of Aveley’s six matches so far this season and scored four goals, making him the club’s top goalscorer so far with his last goal coming in the Millers 3-0 win over Hampton & Richmond last time out, and the other three being a hat-trick in a 4-1 win over Taunton Town.

The midfielder joined Aveley in October 2022, making his debut in a 3-0 victory over Haringey Borough, and previous to being at Parkside he played for Leiston, Tilbury, Hayes & Yeading United, Northwood & Westfield.

How have they been doing?

Following promotion from the Isthmian Premier League last season, where they beat Hornchurch 1-0 in the Play Off Final, Aveley got their first ever National League South campaign started with a 1-0 defeat away at Chippenham Town. That opening day defeat was swiftly followed by three wins in a row, those being 4-1 at home to Taunton Town, 2-0 at home to Eastbourne Borough and an impressive 2-1 away win over league leaders Worthing.

A first home defeat came last weekend as they lost 1-0 against Dartford, before Aveley got back to winning ways on Monday with a 3-0 home win over Hampton & Richmond. The Millers come into this match in 5th position with 12 points from their opening six games.
