TUAFC are delighted that once again Grand Central have agreed to be a pitchside Board Sponsor for the 2023/24 season.
Grand Central is a cafe bar in the centre of Paignton and is one of the most successful bars in South Devon. They offer fantastic food throughout the day including breakfasts and roast dinners. It is a family fun bar/restaurant, set in the heart of Paignton.
They offer a wide range of food and drink, as well as excellent breakfasts, delicious steaks and fantastic roast dinners. The Grand Central Bar in Paignton is a trendy bar/café serving fresh coffee, beers, lagers, wines and spirits. They are probably one of the best sports and all round bars in Torbay, where you can watch your favourites teams on large screens with a pint, cocktail, pizza or burger.
Grand Central owner Malcolm Thatcher told us about the venue and also the link with Torquay United:-
“I brought Grand Central 18 years ago and it it is a Sports Bar/Cafe which opens at 8am and stays open until midnight. The place gets very busy on food and is run by the family, which is me, my wife and my son, and i also have another son that works here on a part time basis.”
“The bar was built 18 years ago by myself and the guy that owns the building, and it was all decided on the toss of a coin as we were sat in the garden having a drink, and the premises had been an amusement arcade that had gone bankrupt, and he asked me what i would do with it to which i said i would turn it into a bar which we then did. We got together the next day and designed it ourselves and then built it. He is no longer part of it now but i rent the bar from him.”
“I used to sponsor Paignton Rugby Club, and then Sharon & her husband (Russell Musker) had a building across the road, and Sharon asked me if id like to sponsor Torquay United in some way, and now i have done so for the past two years with our pitchside board.”
