Retro Gulls is back for the new season and saw a record turn out in Boots & Laces on Thursday afternoon, as United Manager Gary Johnson and captain Asa Hall took centre stage during our latest event.

Our August Retro Gulls began with the competitive quiz as once again 15 questions were asked to get the minds thinking in the room, and it was won with a score of 13 points by Laurie, Colin, Eddie & Nigel, so well done to them, and indeed everybody that took part as was a very close quiz.

Following that, it was the turn of the Retro Gulls themselves to relive some of those past memories, with Torbay Weekly’s Dave Thomas giving a talk and bringing in some programmes in relation to the recent passing of former Gulls keeper Andy Donnelly. Lots of guess work went into naming the teams that played in the games of the programmes, with a very high success from the the attendees in naming the players.

The second half of the event included a surprise visit from the Gaffer himself and captain Asa Hall. Asa was asked about his current injury, while Gary Johnson was asked about the current season and the teams current four match winning run, with both answering lots of other question put forward. Lots of laughs were had in what was a very successful and enjoyable afternoon at Boots & Laces.

Torquay United AFC would like to thank everyone that came to Retro Gulls, and we look forward to welcoming you all back to Plainmoor for our next event of the season on Friday 29th September!

About Retro Gulls

With the health and wellbeing in residents aged 50 and over widely recognised as another important aspect of community care within Torbay, supporters aged 50 and over will be invited to attend events in Boots & Laces once a month, with United stars present and past due to be in attendance for each meeting.

The Club will be focused on all things Torquay United, and will provide the opportunity to get Torquay talking. These events will give our ‘Retro Gulls’ the chance to discuss the current team, and those of yesteryear, with both fellow supporters and United stars past and present.

The events will vary each month, with future activities set to include fitness sessions, skittles, programme swap-shops, quizzes, bingo, workshops and much more!
