Torquay United AFC is pleased to announce the loan signing of Southampton striker Luke Pearce.

After breaking into the matchday squad as a 16 year-old at Walsall, it was The Saints that eventually won the race for the highly-rated youngster, with the Republic of Ireland U19 international going on to make three appearances from the bench in Southampton’s EFL Trophy campaign, prior to enjoying a productive loan spell at The Gulls’ National League South rivals Eastbourne Borough last term.

Torquay boss Gary Johnson was understandably delighted to secure Pearce’s services ahead of the trip to Aveley tomorrow, with the hosts one of a number of NLS Clubs who play their home matches on an artificial surface.

“We’re very pleased to bring in another striker to our squad,” said Johnson.

“Luke has been an Irish international at youth level, and knows this league well after playing for Eastbourne, where he scored five goals in nine games. After playing on AstroTurf at Eastbourne, although it’s not our deadline day, we wanted to get him in on loan.

“He’s 19 years of age, and we know that the Torquay fans will make him feel very welcome.”

This move is subject to FA & EFL approval.
